Dan's LeJog: Cycling 1,000 Miles for EGFR+ UK

This May, one of our community's own supporters is taking on one of cycling's most iconic challenges - riding the entire length of Britain from Land's End to John O'Groats - to raise money for EGFR+ UK.

The challenge

From 29th May to 12th June 2026, Dan Lewis will cover roughly 1,000 miles over 14 consecutive days, riding from the tip of Cornwall to the far north of Scotland. The route takes him through Glastonbury, the Welsh borders, the Lake District, Dumfries & Galloway, the Isle of Arran, Fort William and Inverness, before the final push to John O'Groats.

That's long days in the saddle, significant hills, and, as Dan puts it, "the strong likelihood of being rained on in every county in Britain."

Why he's doing it

Dan's mum, Lesley, has been supported by EGFR+ UK through her diagnosis and treatment. Like many families, the Lewis family found themselves suddenly navigating uncertainty, complex medical information, and difficult decisions.

"When mum was diagnosed, our family suddenly found ourselves dealing with a lot of uncertainty, medical jargon, and difficult decisions. EGFR+ has been a brilliant source of support, information and reassurance throughout. They help people with EGFR+ and their families understand what's happening, what the options are, and how to cope with it all , which makes a huge difference when everything feels overwhelming."

Dan is also keen to challenge the stigma that too often surrounds lung cancer: "It turns out lung cancer doesn't ask to see your smoking history before turning up. Anyone with lungs is technically eligible, which makes research and support for EGFR+ UK vital."

Making a difference

Dan has already surpassed his original fundraising target, raising over £3,160 from 37 supporters - 126% of his £2,500 goal - before the ride has even begun. But he's not stopping there.

If you'd like to support Dan's ride, you can donate directly on his JustGiving page: 👉

As Dan says: "If you can't donate, encouragement is also welcome. I'll be the tired-looking cyclist heading north swearing about headwinds and hills."

We're incredibly grateful to Dan for taking on this challenge in support of our community. We'll be sharing updates throughout his ride. Follow us on social media to cheer him on.
