London Marathon 2026: Trudie and Matt’s Journey So Far
With the 2026 TCS London Marathon now firmly on the horizon, we wanted to bring everything together in one place and share how our two runners are getting on.
Trudie and Matt have been training for months now - balancing work, study, family life and early mornings - all while raising funds for EGFR+ UK.
Here’s where things stand…
Trudie
Trudie is running for her mum, Shirley, who was diagnosed with stage 4 EGFR+ lung cancer in November 2024.
Training is well underway. Alongside completing her Master’s degree in Biochemistry, she’s following a structured plan with four runs and three strength sessions each week. Sheffield’s hills are doing their job, even if they don’t always feel kind.
She’s already completed the Belfast and Edinburgh Marathons, finishing Edinburgh in 3:52, and is hoping to edge closer to a new PB in London. But more than anything, she wants to take in the day and remember why she’s there.
She’s been sharing her training and her mum’s story to help raise awareness of EGFR+ lung cancer along the way.

Matt
Matt is running for his mum, who was diagnosed with EGFR+ lung cancer 18 months ago.
Running has become a huge part of his life over the past two years, and he’s throwing himself into this build-up. Right now he’s covering around 60km a week across four runs, alongside two strength sessions. He’s been working with a running and fitness coach for 18 weeks, which he says has made a real difference physically and mentally.
There’s been a small foot injury to manage, but it’s improved a lot in recent weeks. He’s also hit new PBs in both a 5K and 10K and has the Battersea Half Marathon coming up as part of his preparation.
Fundraising is going strongly too, and he’s already closing in on his target.

Thank You for Backing Them
Both Trudie and Matt are putting in serious work behind the scenes.
Every donation supports the information, advocacy and community that EGFR+ UK provides for people living with EGFR-positive lung cancer.
We’ll continue sharing updates as race day approaches and we’ll be cheering them on in London on Sunday 26 April 2026.
If you’re able to support them, even a small donation makes a difference.
